Custom Plastic Faceplates for Instruments and Equipment

Plasticpartsmfg manufactures plastic faceplates to your CAD files and drawings for instruments, control panels, industrial electronics, medical equipment and test systems.

Specify display windows, button openings, text areas, mounting holes, chamfers and surface finishes around your design. We support one-off prototypes, small batches and repeat production.

Custom plastic faceplate for an instrument or equipment interface

Designed around your interface

Openings and mounting features are made to the supplied geometry, with material and finish reviewed for your project.

Made to your drawing

Faceplates built around fit, function and finish

A faceplate connects the user interface to the equipment behind it. Openings and mounting features need to align with displays, switches, connectors and the enclosure. Material and finish also affect how the panel looks and performs in its intended environment.

We review supplied CAD and drawing requirements before production. Specify critical tolerances on the drawing; feasibility depends on material, process and part geometry.

Interface features

Display and indicator windows, button, switch and keypad openings, plus connector and cable access cutouts.

Mounting and fit

Mounting holes, slots, countersinks, custom outlines and dimensions designed around assembly interfaces.

Edges and geometry

Chamfers, corner radii and other specified edge details produced to suit the part design and selected process.

Marking and appearance

Engraved or printed text areas, colors and surface finishes specified for the visible faces of your panel.

Product scope

Common types of custom plastic faceplates

Categories can overlap: a display faceplate may also include engraved legends, connector openings and mounting features. Share the complete design so we can quote the part as a finished component.

Material selection

Materials for appearance and function

Selection depends on geometry, appearance, operating conditions and order quantity. Material grades differ, and availability or process suitability varies. Tell us the required grade, color, transparency and relevant performance criteria so we can review options for your design.

Material Common considerations for faceplates
ABSOpaque panels and housings where color and a finished appearance matter.
PCTough plastic panel applications; clear grades may be considered for windows.
PMMATransparent or translucent display and indicator areas.
PVC, PETSheet components where the specified material and design suit the application.
POM, PA, PBTEngineering plastic options to assess against mechanical and environmental requirements.
PPS, PEEK, PSU, PPSUHigher-performance materials for projects with defined material requirements.

Manufacturing options

Choose a process for your geometry and quantity

The right route depends on panel geometry, material, cosmetic requirements and order quantity. Not every process can produce every detail or finish; we assess feature sizes, edge conditions, material form and quantity before confirming a manufacturing route.

Typical process considerations

  • CNC machining: Prototypes and low-volume parts with machined outlines and drawing-defined features.
  • Laser cutting: Sheet designs with cut profiles and openings, subject to material and geometry.
  • Plastic 3D printing: Prototype parts and early design checks, depending on material and finish needs.
  • Injection molding: Repeat production when design and expected quantity justify tooling.
  • Vacuum casting or thermoforming: Options for compatible low-volume or formed panel and cover designs.

Project planning

Prototype, validate, then scale as needed

Prototype

Check dimensions, interface alignment and appearance before committing to a production route.

Engineering validation

Produce parts for assembly, functional checks or design revisions.

Low-volume and repeat production

Order smaller quantities or reorder to an approved drawing and agreed material and finish requirements.

Contract manufacturing

Combine faceplates with other custom plastic components, secondary operations or assembly requirements.

We accept orders from one piece to production quantities. A process suited to a prototype may differ from the best option for recurring demand, so share estimated quantities by project stage.

Drawing checklist

Details that affect fit and finish

Clear specifications help prevent misalignment, rework and mismatched appearance. Mark tolerances explicitly wherever a dimension is critical to fit or function.

If available, include a sample or mating-part drawing. Achievable tolerances depend on the process, material and feature; we can review specified requirements before quoting.

Dimensions and interfaces

Overall and critical dimensions, hole locations and sizes, fit requirements, assembly interfaces and mating components.

Windows and openings

Window dimensions and whether the window is open or transparent, plus button, connector and mounting requirements.

Edges and corners

Chamfers, edge treatments and corner radii required by the design.

Material and color

Material grade, color and transparency, along with operating environment and relevant criteria.

Visible surface

Identify visible faces and specify the surface finish expected for each.

Text and symbols

Marking locations, text, symbols, font requirements, position and orientation.

Finishing and assembly

Marking and secondary operations

Faceplates may need more than a cut profile. Subject to design and selected material, available options include polishing, painting, printing, engraving, bonding, assembly and packaging.

For marked panels, provide artwork or indicate text, symbols, font requirements, position and orientation. For cosmetic surfaces, identify visible faces and describe the expected finish.

Project questions

Planning your faceplate order

How do I choose a manufacturing process?

Consider geometry, material, finish and order quantity. CNC machining may suit prototypes and low-volume parts; laser cutting can suit compatible sheet designs; 3D printing can support early checks; injection molding may be considered when design and volume justify tooling. Send your quantities by project stage so options can be reviewed.

What should I provide to discuss tolerance and fit?

Provide a drawing with critical dimensions and explicit tolerances, hole and window requirements, and any mating-part details or sample. Feasibility depends on material, process and feature geometry.

Can a faceplate be supplied with marking or assembly?

Secondary options may include printing, engraving, polishing, painting, bonding, assembly and packaging, subject to the design and selected material. Include artwork and assembly details with your inquiry.
