Engineering Considerations for PET & Thermoplastics

Optimizing your CAD model for thermoforming ensures superior mechanical integrity, consistent wall thickness, and reduced cycle times.

Unlike injection molding, thermoforming requires specific draft angles to allow clean release of the part from male or female molds. We advise maintaining a minimum of 3–5 degrees of draft on all vertical walls.
During vacuum drawing, the flat sheet material stretches, producing wall thinning in deep-draw cavities. We conduct thickness simulations on your CAD geometry to predict draw ratios and suggest localized design compensation.
Sharp interior and exterior edges must be avoided to prevent material webbing and localized stress fractures. Incorporating generous radii ensures structural durability and steady plastic flow across the mold surfaces.
